I once read an article that stated that MLM’s (multi-level marketing companies, also called direct selling companies) were not trustworthy. (Now, again, I can only speak for Young Living essential oils, the company of which I am an independent distributor).
But the article, which was about essential oils, went on to criticize Young Living among other direct selling essential oil brands. The author stated that the only trustworthy essential oil companies were “small, not corporate size”, and ones which are owned by an aromatherapy practitioner.
Who was the author of the article? An aromatherapy practitioner. Hmmmm, what’s wrong with this picture??
The author then went on to make false claims about the bigger companies. Thankfully the article had many commenters who pointed out the truth about Young Living oils, and backed those truths up with FACTS.
So, many times there will be direct selling dissenters because, well, they want people to buy from them, not you. And hey, competition is fine, as long as you’re doing it honestly and with integrity. And as long as you have products that deliver.
I’m not saying that all MLM’s are trustworthy. In fact, I am sure there are many that are not. I am strictly talking about Young Living essential oils here.
Another thing people assume about MLM’s is that they are pyramid schemes. Well, last I heard, pyramid schemes are illegal. And they are very different than MLM’s like Young Living. For example, pyramid schemes sell the business, not the product. The sole means of income in pyramid schemes is selling a “share” of the company’s “pie”. That doesn’t work, especially if you are at the bottom of the pyramid. Because most people realize that it doesn’t work, so they bail. That doesn’t sound like a good business model to me.
Young Living independent distributors can recruit others to join the company as distributors. But that’s not the emphasis of the company, the oils are. The PRODUCT. Most distributors like myself, believe in and use the oils regularly. We LOVE our oils!! And we get excited about sharing how great they are. Plus, there are many benefits to having your own business as a YL distributor. I will get back to that in a minute.
First, I want to talk a little more about other successful MLM’s.
Have you heard of Avon? Tupperware? Mary Kay? Amway?
They have been around for years, and most people don’t realize they are MLM’s. They are generally regarded as trustworthy. Because people love their products. And guess what? They invite new distributors in to the fold the same way Young Living does.
Young Living has been around for 20 years. You can read all about the start of Young Living and its founder, D. Gary Young here.
Ok, so here are some of the benefits of becoming a Young Living independent distributor.
First, an income. It’s a flexible, part-time or full-time job, that you can work from your very own home. This is perfect for stay at home moms (or stay at home dads!) who want to add a little extra money to the household income. You can work it as little or as much as you want.
I made the decision to blog about oils, but it’s not required. Some people are better at selling on a more personal, face-to-face level. I prefer to ramble on about oils in blog posts and hope people don’t want to throw things at me.
It’s all up to you.
And you get some perks as an independent distributor. Like reduced shipping on orders. All items at a 24% discount. And you earn credits on every order – which add up to free oils!!
And here’s the best part.
Even if all those benefits are still not enough to make you want to sell Young Living essential oils…..it’s okay. You don’t have to. You will never be forced to sell. You can simply be a consumer, either as a wholesale member (discounted prices, Premium Starter Kit makes you eligible), or as a retail member.
Not bad for an MLM, huh?
Ok, have I rambled too long again?
Are you picking up things to throw at me? (aahhh, the safety of being a blogger)
