Hope

Life is hard.

Pain and hurt are real.

No one is exempt.

I’m a Christian, and I wish I could tell you that Christians are free from pain and suffering.

But we’re not. At least not yet. The Bible promises that, in paradise, believers will have complete freedom from pain, sadness, and evil.

But the Bible makes no promises of that during our time here in our earthly bodies.

And don’t believe anyone, televangelist or not, who tries to tell you otherwise.

You have a 100% chance of experiencing pain and suffering.

But surely I didn’t write this post to leave you feeling hopeless.

Nope. Because there is hope.

Don’t misunderstand me. I’m not saying there is a way OUT of your pain. But there can be a way THROUGH your pain.

Because as big as your pain is, Jesus Christ is bigger.

He’s BIGGER.

Oh, I still feel pain. I still suffer. But I am comforted and held by Jesus during all of it. Because He’s bigger than anything I can ever experience. He’s big enough to let me know that this is not going to last forever. But while it does, He will hold me close. Even if it’s until my last breath on this earth.

I never give up. You know why?

Because He doesn’t let me.

Not because I push through it. Not because I gather up enough strength for another day. I can’t. I would never have enough strength. I would never have what it takes to make it another day.

But He does. He gives me the next breath that I need. And the next. And the next.

My pain doesn’t define me. Jesus does.

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33b

Life

Last year at this time I wrote a post about celebrating Jesus.

It wasn’t one of my usual posts about essential oils.

I love Young Living essential oils.

And while they have changed my life for the better, they are not what gives me life. Jesus Christ gives me life. Life that goes way beyond my time on this earth.

I really hope you’ll check out that post.

Then check out this fantastic song, which describes life with Jesus so beautifully.

Celebrate Jesus

Christmas-Star

You’ve heard it said: Jesus is the reason for the season.
(And He is).

I get it. The point is to have us all remember that Jesus should be our focus for the Christmas season, not presents and trees and candy canes.

But, really He is the reason for EVERY season. He should be the focus of every season.
Which doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy all the other things. I think we should enjoy them.
But we should remember where our hearts need to be. Not just at Christmas time, but ALWAYS.
Here’s why.

We’re sinners. Every last one of us. Babies are born with a sin nature. No one is immune to sin.

And while most people think they are “good” people, none of us are. Not really. Not when we compare ourselves to the goodness and holiness of God.

Isaiah 64:6 says “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

And here’s the kicker:

There is nothing we can do about it.

NOTHING.

We cannot make ourselves good enough for God, no matter what we do or how hard we try. It is impossible.

BUT….

Jesus, Who walked this earth as both God and man – He did it for us. He made a way for us to be “good enough” for God. He made a way for us to live eternally with Him, without the fear of ending up in hell – which is what we deserve.
He died for us. He took our sins upon Himself in the ultimate selfless sacrifice.
We just have to believe. That’s it. There’s nothing else we can do anyway.

We just have to believe in Him, and His sacrifice. Believe that He was resurrected 3 days after His death. Believe that we receive His Holy Spirit upon believing. So that when God looks upon us, He doesn’t see the awful stain of our sin anymore. He sees His Son.

How beautiful is that?

Kind of makes all the other distractions in our lives pale in comparison, don’t you think?

And let’s face it. We’re not perfect people. We’re not going to remember to put our focus on Jesus all the time.
But, as believers, we are better off for the times when we do remember.

Because as Philippians 4:7 says “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

So, I hope that each and every one of you that reads this has a wonderful Christmas. I hope that you enjoy the decorating, the presents, and the family time.

But I really hope that you know Jesus. Or that you come to know Him this Christmas.

And I hope that we all remember that He needs to be our focus this season, and ALL seasons.

Because it’s not about the tree.

Not about the presents.

Not about essential oils.

Not about you. Not about me.

It’s all about Him.
