Lemon Essential Oil

Young Living’s Lemon essential oil is one of those oils that is so versatile. There are just SO many uses for it, so I will go ahead and categorize those uses by application methods.

You can apply Young Living’s Lemon essential oil directly to your body. You can use a couple of drops to get rid of occasional dry skin. Got spider veins? Rub a few drops on to the veins to support healthy circulation. And how about wrinkles? (I prefer to call them smile lines) A drop or two of your lemon essential oil will start to smooth those wrinkles right out.

*** it is important to note that lemon essential oil is a photo-sensitive oil. That means that if you apply it to an exposed area of skin, you should avoid direct sunlight (and UV rays) for up to 12 hours. It can cause a hot or burning feeling on your skin if exposed to direct sunlight.

You can also ingest Young Living’s Lemon essential oil. (and please note that I specify Young Living. Other brands are not safe to take internally!) I find that I enjoy lemon oil most when I use it internally. It can help promote proper digestion. When I do get the occasional  nausea, I reach for my lemon oil to help. Generally I will add a drop of two of lemon essential oil to my water or tea.

Speaking of adding lemon oil to my water, did you know that you can make lemonade with lemon oil? Sure can. A couple of drops in a glass of water and you’re set. You can also add a spoon or two of honey to sweeten it up a bit. (oh, p.s.- use a glass cup when adding lemon essential oil. Its petrochemical properties can “eat away” at plastics.)

Another great lemon essential oil function is to encourage proper nasal function. When you combine lemon oil with peppermint essential oil and lavender essential oil, you create a great natural recipe for this. You can simply fill an empty veggie capsule with 2 drops of each oil, and swallow with water.

Lemon essential oil is also great to use through inhalation or in a diffuser. Simply inhaling the oil from the bottle promotes energy and mental focus. (I’m thinking this would be great to use while at my desk at work at about 3pm, if ya know what I’m sayin’). And adding some drops of lemon essential oil to your diffuser – well, it just makes your house smell CLEAN. It works great as an air freshener too! Speaking of clean, that brings me to…..

Household Uses

So, what it the most common smell in household cleaners (besides the chemicals – yuk!)? Lemon! Yes, because lemon has cleansing properties. You can add 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil to water in a spray bottle and spray your counter tops to clean them. Laundry? Add a drop to your wash for clean, great smelling clothes! Dishes? Add a drop to your dishwasher to clean your dishes.

Ok, now for what MAY be my very favorite use for lemon essential oil. Moms, listen up. Do you have anything….shall I say…STICKY…in your home? Don’t lie. We know you do. If you have children, you have sticky. It’s a package deal. The thing about sticky is, even if you remove the sticky, the residue remains. Gum, crayons, grease, oil, candy, juice – you get the picture. Well, get this. If you use a couple of drops of lemon essential oil on that residue (whether in the sprayer mentioned above or otherwise), it will wipe that residue right off. No more sticky! Well, at least not in THAT area. Within the time it took you to clean that up, your child has spread the sticky elsewhere. Hey, but that’s okay! You have lemon essential oil cleaner! And face it, they have to go to bed sometime. You WILL get one step ahead of them! If only for a few hours. But we can still dream.

So to sum up, lemon essential oil is so powerful that it will help support your immune system in virtually any way that you use it. And you will use it, trust me. Young Living’s lemon essential oil was the first oil I ever tried. And I was hooked.

If you think you’d like to try Young Living’s lemon essential oil, or maybe you just want to “un-sticky” your child, let me know.

And remember, lemon essential oil is also part of the Premium Starter Kit, along with 10 other commonly used essential oils (and a diffuser!).
