What are essential oils?
Essential oils are oils that are extracted from plants, mainly through steam distillation. Because their molecules are so small in size, they are able to be absorbed quickly by the skin. Essential oils are able to penetrate human cells. There is far more information on the benefits of essential oils than I can possible list here. For more info on this, you can purchase reference guides at sites like Amazon, Life Science Publishing, or Abundant Health.
Why should I use the Young Living brand of essential oils?**
Young Living’s essential oils are pure, therapeutic grade essential oils. There are many factors which determine whether an essential oil is considered therapeutic grade, including: soil condition, climate, location, distillation process, etc. Young Living ensures that all of the healing properties of the oils are preserved by their Seed to Seal process. The five steps in the Seed to Seal Process are: Seed, Cultivate, Distill, Test, and Seal.
First, Seed. Young Living selects the seeds that produce the highest therapeutic value.
Second, Cultivate. Young Living’s experts have the knowledge of the best farming techniques, such as soil preparation and pest control, and make sure that the highest standards are met.
Third, Distill. Young Living’s low pressure steam distillation process “ensures that the beneficial plant compounds in every batch of essential oil remain uncompromised during the extraction process.” (From Young Living’s 2013-2014 product guide)
Fourth, Test. Young Living has a series of tests that the oils must pass to ensure their purity and potency. These tests are done in their own labs as well as in third party testing.
Fifth, Seal. Every bottle of oil that Young Living produces is sealed and inspected before leaving the facility.
Young Living is the only distributor of essential oils that can claim this process. That is why Young Living is the ONLY brand of essential oils that is SAFE to take internally (see bottle labels for proper usage). And because essential oils are not regulated by the FDA or any governing body, false claims of purity are made by other distributors all the time. Did you know that a bottle of essential oil only has to be 5% pure in order for the distributor to call it absolutely pure? These other brands, especially the ones sold in retail and health food stores, heavily dilute their oils to make them appear more affordable. In reality, the consumer is getting a far weaker and less effective product by buying off of the shelf. And those oils are extremely unsafe to take internally.
As you can see by the information above, Young Living is the only brand committed to pure, therapeutic grade essential oils and superior quality. Young Living is the only brand of essential oils I will ever feel safe using.
Why are Young Living’s oils more expensive than store-bought oils?
As we went over in the previous question, one of the biggest reasons store-bought oils seem to be more affordable is because they are heavily diluted. The pure oil content is just not there. In addition, the distributors of retail store oils do not have the Seed to Seal promise that Young Living offers in order to ensure the highest quality.
Another thing to consider is that Young Living’s essential oils make a little go a long way. Young Living’s 15ml bottles contain approximately 250-300 drops of oil. Most applications require 1-2 drops at a time. Depending on how often you use the oil, it can last you anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. These oils retain their potency (in the required conditions) for up to 5 years or more.
Can Young Living’s oils be used on children?
Yes, the oils are safe for children provided you follow the directions on the bottle label. With most oils, it is recommended to dilute them with a carrier oil (such as coconut or vegetable oil) before application to the child’s skin (since children’s skin can be more sensitive than adult skin). If you ever have a question as to what or how to use an oil on your child, please ask me. If I don’t know, I will certainly find out for you.
Can Young Living’s oils be used on pets?
Many of Young Living’s oils are safe for dogs. There are a few that are safe for cats. And I know there are many that are used on horses. These questions can best be answered on Young Living essential oil forums or groups. There are also reference guides that have information on pet oils.
Do Young Living essential oils smell bad?
This depends on your smell preference! There are some YL oils that have somewhat of a more “bitter” smelling aroma than others. But remember, these oils are not like a fragrance or perfume. You may smell the oil for a minute or two after application, but not after that. Because the oils are absorbed so quickly into the skin, the “fragrant” part of the oil will disappear. And the most important thing to realize is this: the job they perform should outweigh anything else. And you know what? I actually love the smell of about 99% of my YL oils!
If I buy Young Living essential oils, how will I know how to use them?
That’s what I’m here for! You can always ask me any question you have. Also, there are so many other resources available to you. There are reference books, and there are various Facebook groups and pages that discuss application methods and ideas. If you order the Premium Starter Kit, Young Living includes a booklet of uses for the starter kit oils. And of course there are always directions on the actual oil bottle itself. Plus, everyone who orders a Premium Starter Kit through me will have access to our members only group, where there are TONS of resources – including videos, graphics, and oil “training”!
What is the difference between a retail customer and a wholesale member?
A retail customer can purchase any oils at the retail price. A wholesale member receives a 24% discount on all purchases for the life of their membership. The only requirement for becoming a wholesale member is the purchase of a starter kit (no discount on starter kit). Wholesale members also have the option to sell Young Living’s products if they choose to do so.
Why does Young Living ask me for my social security number when I join as a wholesale member?
Because wholesale members have the opportunity to sell and receive income from Young Living products, Young Living is required by law to obtain a social security number for tax purposes. They do not use your SS# for any other purpose. Young Living has been in business for over 20 years and has hundreds of thousands of members, so you do not need to feel concerned about giving them this information. Oh, and, if you are wondering, all of the personal info you give to Young Living is not shared with me or any of your upline (with the exception of your email and address).
Do I have to sell Young Living products in order to become a wholesale member?
No! That is completely your choice. Most people begin using YL products with no intention of selling them. Then, after using the products, many people feel the need to share what they are so excited about! Young Living’s Essential Rewards program is what you would join if you are interested in selling the oils. There are great benefits to joining besides earning extra income, such as reduced shipping costs and earning credits towards free oils. Please contact me if you are interested in learning more about the Essential Rewards program.
I saw a picture on your Facebook/Pinterest page, but can’t find the post. Where is it?
I post to Facebook and Pinterest about 1-2 times per day. I will often use graphics that are informational to show what can be achieved through using Young Living essential oils. I simply do not have the ability to do a blog post for every oil graphic that you see on my Facebook or Pinterest pages. If you would like more info on a product that I have not already posted about on my blog, visit my “Order Oils” page where you can click on the Young Living product guide. The guide is in PDF format, and will give you information and pricing on all of the oils and other products that Young Living sells. And remember, if you have specific questions, you can always ask me!
I will be adding more questions to this page as I get them from you. Please contact me with any other questions you may have!
